“Is the self autonomous, or do we come into being through contact with others?
What we are asking is not whether the self exists or not, but rather whether we are formed through one another, or if there is an inner essence independent of the world around us. How can we explore our beings and our sense of existence through physical contact with other bodies? How is the self affected when it is met by the gaze of another self? How does the unborn dance come into being — is it through the gaze of the observer? And where do the boundaries lie between the individual and the collective?
